Ali Sousa Tutoring
My Tutoring Philosophy
My number one priority is to help students feel more confident and capable in all academic areas. I strongly believe that there is no “one size fits all” model when it comes to student learning, which is why my tutoring style caters to your child’s specific needs. My goal is to find ways to make learning more accessible in a 1:1 environment for all children, especially in subjects that do not come as easily or create confusion in the classroom.
By prioritizing trust and strong relationship building with my students, I am able to better understand their individual learning style and support them as best as possible. My focus on creating a positive rapport with my students creates more of a willingness for them to engage comfortably and meaningfully with their work. I always strive to build students up on our journey together so that they can continue to grow into their limitless potential.
Meet Ali
I have a lifelong passion for education and over a decade of elementary school classroom teaching experience. I spent the first part of my career teaching in an independent, K-12 inclusion school in Manhattan after graduating in 2012 with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education & Special Education (grades 1-6) and a minor in literacy. I also earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction.
With eight years of hands-on, full-inclusion classroom teaching experience, I have extensive knowledge differentiating curriculum in order to support a range of learners including students with special needs to those working significantly above grade level. Because of the neurodiversity in my classroom each year, differentiating the curriculum became second-nature and has greatly influenced the way the way that I support students during tutoring sessions.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have been 1:1 tutoring for over 6 years in a range of elementary subjects including reading, writing, and math with students grade 1-6. My experience transitioning to tutoring over Zoom has enabled me to reach a wider network of students while creating engaging, interactive, and targeted sessions toward specific learning goals.
